LESSONS LEARNT

1.     I have learnt that to deep condition on dry hair for better penetration and to let the conditioner sit well on my head for not less than an hour.

2.     I have learnt that you don’t trim to get rid of split ends but you trim to keep your hair even.

3.     GHE Method: it is the process of using a plastic cap to generate heat on the scalp, this promotes blood flow to the scalp and boost moisture levels.

4.     Keeping/baby-ing my ends:
Add more protein to my ends
Sealing my ends with oils and conditioners
Keeping/Hiding /protecting my ends equals to Length Retention.

5.     Finding & growing my hair with the Lead hair: Find which strands of hair is the longest; instead of trimming it, grow the other parts of hair to be the length of that lead hair.

6.     LOC or LOCO:  Moisturizing and Sealing routine that takes the hair moisture level to another level.   Liquid+Oil+Cream= LOC
             Liquid+oil+Cream+oil=LOCO,
Either way you choose, the result is great.
7.     I have also learnt that when baggying; always do so by placing a satin scarf around your edges first before placing the plastic scarf so that the edges of your plastic bag doesn’t rub off unnecessarily on the edges of your hair.
8.     Another lesson learnt is to heat your conditioner in hot water before using it. It will give you a super soft hair.
9.     Refrigerate your leave in conditioner. A cold leave in will help to seal your hair’s cuticle after washing. This is extremely helpful if you can’t take a cold water rinse. It will also increase the shine in your hair.
10.I have learnt not to trim my hair when it is wet; because wet hair has more elasticity and can give a false illusion of longer hair, so it is better to trim your ends when your ends are dry to get an accurate result and it makes the ends come out sharper.
Have you learnt anything since your HHJ began, are they different from these, please share.

Healthy hair tips – How to get healthy hair with some simple precautions

Tip 1: Always protect your hair from sun, wind and rain. Exposure to excessive sun, heat, dirt, pollution etc. adds to our already existent hair woes. These can lead to dirt build up, drying out of hair and scalp, increased susceptibility to infections on the scalp.
Tip 2: Wet hair is very fragile and breaks easily. When wet, the shaft and roots of your hair is more prone to sustaining damage. Don’t be too harsh when shampooing. Breakage begins there. And also avoid brushing immediately after a shower.
Tip 3: Use a moisturizing conditioner after every wash. Never walk out of a shower without it. Missing this step could be the reason why your hair is frizzy.
Tip 4: Conditioning needs to be done right. Conditioners are formulated to seal in the moisture content in the hair shaft. They are not meant for the scalp. Start conditioning about 2 inches away from your scalp. Too much conditioner on the scalp will only make your scalp excessively oily.
Tip 5: Choose a shampoo and a conditioner from the same line as it has a similar formulation. These are made for a specific hair type and a specific purpose. It shows better results when you use a single line instead of two individual products.
Tip 6: Avoid using heat on your hair. Heat further strips the moisture content from your hair making it dry and frizzy. When over used, it can also burn your hair. Use iron/curl, straighteners only if necessary and remember to use a hair protectant before!
Tip 7: Avoid using super tight hair ties; instead opt for scrunchies with cloth around them. Tight hair ties tend to pull your hair back real tight which increases friction. This can cause breakage.
Tip 8: When you go to bed at night, loosely braid your hair to avoid a frizzy mess, a side braid is better option. Leaving your hair open, tends to knot it which means you need to subject it to pulling and brushing in the morning. Over brushing results in the frizziness.
Tip 9: Sleeping on satin pillow covers is known to reduce hair breakage due to friction. Cotton and other materials are quite rough in texture. Due to which they also cause more friction against your hair.
Tip 10: When drying hair, pat dry. Do not ever rub. You might dry your hair faster but the amount of hair that breaks and falls away also doubles up.
Tip 11: Oil your hair as frequently as you can and use a gentle shampoo to get rid of the oil. Oiling the scalp is good for your hair. But do not over do it. Dripping oil from your hair will only need you to use more shampoo which strip out more of your natural oils no matter how mild it is.
Tip 12: Use hair masks that are suited for your hair. Hair needs vary as per your hair type and troubles. It is necessary that you use the right masks for otherwise it can further aggravate your problem.
Tip 13: Avoid teasing your hair; even if it provides a lot of volume, it ruins the hair texture.
Tip 14: Use cold water to wash your hair. Yes, our parents scream at us for it will probably make us sick but hot water affects hair the same way as heat styling methods do. Cold doesn’t exactly mean freezing cold but you can use water at room temperature.
Tip 15: A clarifying shampoo once every month is a good idea. This eliminates the trouble of product build up due which the shampoo and conditioners tend to loose effectiveness.
Tip 16: Brushing, this is a sure shot way to increase the luster of your hair. It spreads the natural oils through the length of your hair. But don’t over do this. And do not use plastic brushes as they cause increased breakage.
Tip 17: Eat right. Health on the inside reflects on your hair too. The healthier you are, the better your hair looks. Certain nutrients like vitamins, iron and proteins are very essential for your hair growth and health. If you are unable to obtain enough from your diet, then you need to consider supplements.
Any healthy habit you know that has worked for you, please feel free to add.

Reviews from the site:
Ø  After searching diligently for a good conditioner for natural, coarse, dry hair, I found this. It really works. You don't need heat or a cap, but it helps. I have even used it as a leave in conditioner. It smells great. Very thick, but smoothes in easily. Softens conditions, reduces breakage, and makes hair easy to comb out.
Ø  This is the best leave in conditioner I've ever used. I didn't get it on Amazon, but when I saw that it was carried here (what isn't?), I wanted to leave my own take on it. I have coarse 4c hair that I've been transitioning for about 7 months. I put about a half a teaspoon of Shea butter oil (yep, on amazon) in my shampoo. This cuts down my shrinkage when washing my hair. I thoroughly coat my hair with the deep conditioner. I've used it several times and it has never left white residue when dry. Smells great with no white residue from anything. Very little shrinkage, shiny, and no breakage Looks nice. I found my perfect wash formula. Now I don't have to wash only on weekends to recover from extreme shrinkage, Love it.
My Take:
The first thing that got my attention when I opened the pack is the sweet smell, uhmmmm, yummy!!!. The color of the product too, my color: “peach” its sooo nice, then the feel on your hand, not so hard and not too thick, just a silky-ish feeling I love love this. It came in a bucket like container too; it’s huge, worth the money too and not too expensive.                                                                                           The first time I used this product, I used it with heat but wanted a second thought about the product so I used it to condition after shampoo. With the heat I felt the conditioner seeped (entered well) or should I say melted into my hair and I loved it. The second time without heat felt awesome too, after shampooing, I applied the product to my hair and covered with a plastic cap and scarfed my hair and let the conditioner stay for an hour after I rinsed, my hair felt so soft and manageable. I think using the product without heat will be a very good one for me.
The presence of Omega 3 & 6 is another plus to the product and there benefits to hair are as follows:
Omega 3:
·         Increases hair elasticity (reduces breakage)
·         Nourishes hair follicles
·         Can help re-start hair growth
·         Prevent or reverse hair loss
·         Increase hair strength and thickness
·         Improve scalp circulation
·         Improve flaky/dry scalp.
Omega 6:
·         Stimulates hair growth
·         Controls water loss in hair
·         Controls/helps improve scalp condition.
This is my judgment: If I have the opportunity I will buy another jar when I am done with this and I hope I have convinced you enough to want to try this product.
Anyone out there tried this product before or any product from this range? Please share your thought.
